Statuary

BUDDHA ("the Enlightened One") an Avatar of the great god Vishnu. He taught people to follow a Middle Way of balance to extinguish their ego and free themselves from aversion and desire. The Buddha's wish is for all sentient beings to reach enlightenment.

DURGA ("the Invincible Goddess") female aspect and consort/wife of Shiva. Called the Goddess Beyond Reach, the Personification of Universal Energy. Durga was created by the gods to conquer demons. She is adored by married women for a happy married life.

GANESHA ("Overcomer of Obstacles") son of Shiva, the god with an elephant head. He symbolises strength, wisdom and intelligence. He is also the god of writers. Ganesha, the Auspicious One, stands for good luck and new beginnings.

HANUMAN ("the Monkey King") is an important figure in the epic story 'Ramayana'. The beloved Hanuman represents loyalty, responsiblity and perserverence. He is regarded as the patron saint of learning.

KALI ("the Black One") a female aspect of Shiva, the Destroyer. Kali is the Mother Goddess, symbol of dissolution and destruction, so new can be created. She is the destroyer of ignorance. She blesses and frees those who strive for the knowledge of God.

KRISHNA ("Christ Energy") eighth avatar or reincarnation of Vishnu, the Preserver. Lord Krishna is one of the most beloved Hindu deities. Best known from the 'Bhagavad-Gita', He gives instruction on faith, duty and life. He symbolizes Eternal Love between people and God.

LAXMI ("Goddess of Prosperity") consort of Vishnu, the Maintainer. Goddess of purity, chastity and generosity. An aura of divine happiness, mental and spiritual satisfaction, and abundance always exist around Laxmi.

SHIVA ("the Destroyer") Shiva is usually depicted meditating, or as Shiva Nataraja, Lord of the dance of evolution. Lord Shiva's dance is a symbol of the rhythm of Life, the eternal dynamic process of creation and destruction. He is also known as the "Giver".
